The encouraging figures are the result of an increase in the number of guests and increased sales per guest. During the summer season, Liseberg amusement park had 2,352 million guests, while Christmas at Liseberg achieved a new attendance record with 552,000 visitors.
Liseberg’s combined facilities (the amusement park together with accommodation and events arenas) had 3.6 million visitors, compared with 3.4 million in 2008.
“The volume of guests in summer and winter exceeded all expectations and clearly shows that what we offer our guests is in demand,” says Mats Wedin, CEO of Liseberg.
Over the last ten-year period Liseberg has invested more than SEK 1 billion in its own businesses. 2009 was no exception. More than SEK 100 million was invested in improvements such as the two new rides, Hanghai and Rabalder, the refurbishment of Liseberg Theatre and the complete renovation of Liseberg Wärdshus.
“We had the courage to go ahead with the investments that were already planned, despite the very gloomy economic situation,” says Mats Wedin.
Liseberg’s importance to tourism in Gothenburg also remains high. In 2009, visitors to the park generated around SEK 2.5 billion in tourism revenue for the city.
“This is of course especially rewarding at a time when the recession has hit western Sweden so hard,” says Mats Wedin.
